EVENT DETAILS
For the last ten years, Hester Street Fair has families to thank for the fun and welcoming atmosphere week after week. The final weeks of summer are coming to an end so we’re hosting a special day for our neighborhood’s kids and their families. Arts and crafts included and some interactive story-telling will ensue, and we have great vendors to choose from that will take care of your child’s needs and also yours!
Special Features
DIY Comics and Zines with Children’s Museum of the Arts
Led by members of Children’s Museum of the Arts’ GirlStories program, this workshop will invite Hester Street Fair visitors of all ages to create their own zine! GirlStories is a free after school program at CMA for girls ages 12-15 that empowers participants to become makers and individuals, and encourages them to bring their unique perspectives into fields that are lacking a female voice. In Spring 2019, the group created their own zine titled “Space, Time, and Dreams”. Materials: Paper, Scissors, Collage Material, Stamps, Drawing Media (provided by CMA)
Led by creators Bettina and Jaclyn, RepurposeU is sharing their interactive story How Mischief Changed the World to our fairgoers at 12 pm and 4 pm. The story teaches kindness, inclusivity, and social-emotional learning and is a group activity that is written at a 4th grade reading level, and is a great resource for youth in grades 4-12. Again, the story times are at 12 and 4pm.
Music Provided By
MS131! A staple in entertainment for our Kid’s Day events, make sure to check out what this creative bunch will have in store for you. Maybe it’s a live performance, maybe it’s an hour DJ set from a classic ipod, who knows what could happen with how creative kids are today. Also, they have a book tent!
